I’ve dabbled in hatching and selling chicks in the past but it’s never been a regular thing here at Westholme. Until now I’ve been too focused on growing my flocks to have the time to devote to hatching on a regular basis. This year that is going to change.

With the days getting longer, the hens are starting to lay a little more often and some new pullets have joined the ranks too. This means more eggs available for sale! With that, I figure a post about what you’re getting when you buy eggs from me is in order.

Today I’m going to share a LONG story with you about Noel. It’s gonna get a little sad and depressing in the middle but, I promise, it gets better at the end. This rooster has had a seriously rough time lately but things are definitely looking up for him now.

A repurposed styrofoam cooler, some light bulbs and electronics = a MacGyvered egg incubator. It isn’t pretty but it (hopefully!) works.
